(Cressy District High School)
Annette is an English SOSE teacher whose interest and focus over the past 23 years have been in Literacy and Middle School. She has worked at Ravenswood High/Heights from 1985-1998 and more recently for the last four years as Assistant Principal at Brooks High School. Annette has been part of innovative leadership teams that have helped transform schools and their communities.
With the emergence of the Essential Learnings Framework she has tackled the added challenge of developing the capacity of schools to become professional learning communities and view teams as the foundation of professional learning communities. Through her Westfield Premier's Education Scholarship, Annette will be working firstly with Professor Louise Stoll at Bath University. Annette will be exploring the characteristics of professional learning communities that bring about greater outcomes for students, including how teams contribute to Teaching and Learning for Understanding. She will also participate in a range of school visits in Bath London.
Annette will be participating in the Talking Heads Network at the National College of School Leadership in Nottingham, and has accepted an International Associate ship offered by the College.
(Glenorchy Primary School)
Margaret is currently a teacher at Glenorchy Primary School. After graduating in the late seventies, her first teaching appointment was as a PE teacher at Nixon Street Primary. Margaret started teaching at Glenorchy eight years ago, with very little knowledge about computers but heaps of enthusiasm to learn. Due largely to her energy and commitment, Glenorchy Primary now has a comprehensive network of computers and peripherals. Margaret not only delivers and supports a K-6 program, but plays a significant role in leading professional learning of colleagues in ICT.
Margaret was the first recipient of the Department of Education Certificate in Education (Computing for Teaching and Learning). She is presently the Treasurer of TASITE (Tasmanian Society of Information Technology in Education), and is a Professional Associate Member of ACCE (Australian Council of Computers in Education).
Margaret will use her Westfield Premier's Education Scholarship to attend the National Educational Computing Conference in Seattle, and she will visit a number of schools in the US.
Margaret will then travel to Canada and England, visiting schools which are leading the way in their use of ICT. Margaret will use the Westfield Education Scholarship to extend and explore her interest in integrating ICT into the classroom.
