Helen Gourley

Ms Gourley is currently the Principal of Kingston High School.

Field of Study:  Curriculum reform and assessment and reporting process.

Ms Gourley will be critically involved in the development of the new Kingston High School complex.

She proposes to use her study to visit designers, schools and districts in Australia, Singapore, the USA and the UK to find best ‘state of the art’ schools that demonstrate excellence in design, functionality, curriculum (particularly transdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary programs, authentic learning and project-based learning), pedagogy, and student welfare (particularly the personalisation of the educational program for each student.

Ms Gourley will take up her four week Scholarship for the period 12 May to 12 June 2007.

Peter Lelong

Mr Lelong is currently the ICT Co-ordinator, Fahan School, and the Professional Learning Consultant (ICT) for Catholic Education and Independent Schools.

Field of Study:  Curriculum reform and assessment and reporting process.

Mr Lelong will travel to the USA and the UK to explore the use of the new Web 2.0 technologies, especially mobile learning and the integration of digital curriculum resources.

He will attend the National Education Computing Conference in Atlanta and meet with educators at The International Learning and Resource Centre, FutureLab and The Specialist Schools and Academies Trust in the UK.
Mr Lelong will take up his four week Scholarship for the period 17 June to 10 July 2007.

Malcolm Wells

Mr Wells is currently the Cluster Principal, Circular Head Schools and his substantive position is as Principal, Ulverstone Primary School.

Fields of Study: Principal leadership for curriculum change and teaching transformations, particularly in the secondary school;

Collaborative inquiry professional learning approaches for the improvement of teaching;

Mr. Wells will study selected school federations in the United Kingdom with the following objectives:

  1. To study the ability of school federations to increase the capacity of principals and teachers to lead and implement effective school transformation – with a particular focus on curriculum planning and delivery in years 5 to 8.
  2. To study how Federations facilitate and support professional learning processes (including collaborative inquiry) in federated schools.
  3. To generally assess the capacity of Federations to enhance educational provision and school leadership in Tasmania. The study will focus on the nature of the response that schools develop especially in the areas of curriculum, teaching and learning, school leadership and staff professional learning.

Mr Wells will shadow school leaders at work in up to three federations and interview teachers and school leaders in federated schools.

Mr. Wells will take up his four week Scholarship for the period 8 June to 11 July 2007.

Dr. Julie Rimes

Julie Rimes

Dr. Rimes is currently the Senior Curriculum Advisor, St. Michael’s Collegiate School.

Field of Study: Differentiating Curriculum and Assessing

Dr. Rimes will undertake research in two allied areas of curriculum development and design:

  1. student readiness levels, multiple intelligences profiles and practical teaching strategies that support the needs of all students in a diverse classroom; and
  2. current practices in assessment for learning.

Dr. Rimes will study at the Harvard Graduate School and meet with senior educators in schools and districts in Washington D.C.

Dr. Rimes will take up her four week Scholarship in March 2007.
