Online Leaders Talk

>> Online Leaders Talk  (registered users)

This collaborative workspace is intended to provide online discussion and learning for participants. A dedicated space within the site is allocated to participants in the Department's Induction Program, Making Connections.

It is hoped that participants will broaden their understanding of leadership issues and facilitate their expertise in using ICT as a professional learning tool.

The discussions will be facilitated and participants are asked to schedule time in advance to participate (eg one hour per fortnight).

The Process

All principals and other educational leaders are invited to request access to the forum workspace by filling out the form below.

  • A return email will be forwarded to you confirming your access. Once you have been added to the workspace, you can use your VKEY (education email) username and password to log on.
  • At regular intervals (about once a fortnight) a focus issue will be identified for discussion and seeded by an initial posting by the facilitator. Participants will be asked to identify websites that they find useful for the issue and why. The websites on the Leadership page of the School Education Division site are useful starting points. You are also encouraged to comment on the other identified issues outside of this fortnightly sequence if this suits you.
  • Reminder emails can be forwarded to you automatically when new discussions are posted. Information about setting up alerts can be obtained by contacting the eCentre Help Desk or phone 1800 227 185.
  • The facilitator's role is to facilitate the processes for discussion by seeding the initial discussion and synthesising the discussion at its conclusion. The facilitator will also manage the discussion process by providing housekeeping updates and seeking feedback on the process itself.
  • An initial "housekeeping" posting will provide details of this process, some templates and key questions to guide your responses, as well as opportunities to regularly debrief.
  • The discussion forum will develop an annotated set of websites, on specific leadership issues, which will serve as an ongoing reference for school leaders.
  • Initial issues identified are:
    • Leading a professional learning community
    • Leading for deeper understanding of teaching and learning
    • Transforming schools through educational technologies
    • Building a supportive school community.
  • Participants will also be invited to identify other leadership issues for discussion.
