2017 Resilient Australia Awards

Congratulations to the Dunalley Primary School community, who were recently awarded a Tasmanian 2017 Resilient Australia Award for the ‘Rebuilding Dunalley Primary School after the 2013 Fires Project’. Principal Susan Jeffery accepted the award from the Hon. Rene Hidding MP at an awards ceremony recently.

Following the 2013 bushfire, getting a temporary school build so quickly was a key priority and contributed immediately and significantly to the emotional recovery of students and their families, particularly those who had lost their homes.  In 2017 a new school was built, and it continues to be the heart of the community, enabling a huge sense of pride and ownership of the new facilities amongst the staff, students and the wider school community.

The project displayed a coordinated effort of leadership and partnerships were formed across government, council, non-government sectors, volunteers and individuals, all allowing a focused recovery operation.  Congratulations to Dunalley Primary School and their wonderful school community on this exciting recognition!
