Managing Type 1 Diabetes in Schools – Workshops for Schools

Diabetes Australia logo

Be part of a national conversation about managing type 1 diabetes in schools

We are inviting schools to be part of a national conversation to inform the future of diabetes education, training and support to schools across Australia.

The Australian Government has asked Diabetes Australia to develop a new nationally consistent training and education program to support type 1 diabetes management in schools.

Diabetes Tasmania already delivers diabetes education and support to schools across Tasmania through the National Diabetes Services Scheme. State and Territory Departments of Education and the Catholic and Independent school systems also provide support in various ways to help schools support students with type 1 diabetes.

This project will further build on these services and help establish an approach that can be tailored by individual schools regardless of where they are located.

We invite you to be part of a discussion to help inform this work and to help us to understand the needs of Tasmanian schools in supporting children with type 1 diabetes.

We wish to talk to as many principals, teachers, school nurses and school staff as possible.

We want to hear about your experiences!

  • What works well?
  • What needs to be improved?
  • What support and information do you use that is helpful?
  • Are the needs different in primary school and secondary school?
  • Who should be responsible for what?

Your experiences will be used to help develop a national training and education program to support schools to manage type 1 diabetes in students.

We have asked PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to help us with this project and they have arranged a number of options for consultation sessions for you to choose. Workshops will be held at Diabetes Tasmania Level 7, 152 Macquarie Street, Hobart.

If you live in a regional or remote area or you can’t make it in person but still want to join in the conversation – we can link you in by video or phone conference (please email diabetesinschools@au.pwc.com and indicate you would like join a session via phone).
