Schools reopening schedule for those affected by bushfires

The Department of Education is pleased to announce that a firm plan has now been established to allow those schools in the Huon Valley that have been affected by bushfires to begin reopening.

The Department has worked closely with the TFS to ensure that it is safe to allow the return of staff and students to these school sites.

This plan was established to minimise any additional disruption for affected communities and support their return to usual locations and activities as soon as possible.

A staged approach will be taken with those schools located the greatest distance from Huonville looking to reopen in the first instance.

Detailed below is a table with the commencing date for students at the four schools that are currently closed:

  • Dover District School – Wednesday 13th  February
  • Geeveston Primary School – Thursday 14th February
  • Franklin Primary School – Monday 18th February
  • Glen Huon Primary School – Monday 18th February

Staff and contractors will begin to access these sites prior to opening to ensure they have time to set up appropriate learning spaces. Schools sites will be cleaned thoroughly with any maintenance work being completed prior to students returning. Students will be able to attend their alternative school site up until their school recommences operation.

The Department will work closely with State Growth to ensure appropriate bus arrangements are in place to support students and families as they return to their schools. This information is now available from this document.

If you have any specific queries in relation to bus services please contact the Department of State Growth – Passenger Transport Division on: 6166 3343

We would like to acknowledge the spirit of the community and staff from all schools who have worked together to deliver such supportive and positive learning for students over the past few days.
