Review of the Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians
7 August 2019
As part of the Review of the Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians the Department is holding Youth Stakeholder consultation forums in Devonport and Hobart.
- In Devonport, at the Paranaple Convention Centre, Devonport on Tuesday 20 August from 2:30pm – 4:30pm
- In Hobart, at the Sustainable Learning Centre near Hobart College on Wednesday 21 August from 1:30pm – 3:30pm
The Youth Stakeholder forums are cross-sectoral and will be attended by the Minister for Education, the Commissioner for Children and Young People and members of the Commissioner’s Ambassador Groups. The event will involve some short speeches followed by activities in small groups designed to gather feedback for a new national declaration.
For any students with an interest in having their voice heard on the future of Australian education, please discuss with your school teacher or principal. Schools can then register interest on behalf of students by contacting Intergovernmental@education.tas.gov.au
A national webinar and Q&A will be held on 22 August 2019 for those unable to attend in person.
The Melbourne Declaration was agreed by Education Ministers from all jurisdictions in 2008 and identifies aspirational goals for educating young Australians through a shared vision for school education in Australia. As the Melbourne Declaration is now over 10 years old, it is timely to conduct a review, which includes a range of national and state level consultation.
