Education Workforce Roundtable – Minister’s update July 2020

On 1 July 2020, the Minister for Education and Training, the Hon Jeremy Rockliff, attended the Education Workforce Roundtable meeting. The Minister received an update on the progress of the More Teachers, Quality Teaching Action Plan and acknowledged the resilience and creativity of the Tasmanian education sector and their willingness to work together to continue to deliver great educational opportunities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Members of the Roundtable discussed learnings from COVID-19, key achievements of the Roundtable in 2020 and progress under the Action Plan. Key achievements of the Roundtable in 2020 include:

  • The inaugural Teach Tasmania Welcome to the Profession Days, held on 28, 29 and 30 January in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie, in partnership between the Department of Education and the University of Tasmania.  
  • Launch of the Teach, Learn, Live Podcast to raise the profile of teachers, celebrate innovative teaching practice and shine a light on the value of public education.
  • Completion of the Impact Evaluation of the Teacher Internship Placement Program by the Peter Underwood Centre. 

For the remainder of 2020, the Roundtable will continue to raise the profile of teaching, increase the use of technology to build quality teaching practices and work in strong partnership to deliver outstanding teaching learning outcomes for Tasmania.

The Roundtable continues to progress these focus areas in line with the Action Plan.

The next meeting of the Roundtable is scheduled for September 2020.
