Early Years

The Department of Education’s Strategic Plan 2018-2021 identifies the goal of early learning – From birth to 8 years of age, children are confident, involved learners and effective communicators.

Tasmania’s Strategy for Children – Pregnancy to Eight Years 2018-2021 will help us achieve our collective vision of ‘Children Thriving in Strong Connected Communities’ through a focus on quality, equity and partnerships. We also have a Guide to Reading and using Tasmania’s Strategy for Children and an Action Template available.

Visit the It’s A Great Start website to find out more information on the Early Years, including; Launching into Learning, B4 Early Years Coalition, Child and Family Learning Centres, Libraries Tasmania, Kindergarten, Learning in Families Together (LIFT) and Education and Care.

Planning is underway to support learners in Kindergarten to Year 2 to ‘bounce back’ to learning at school’ in 2020.

Working Together for 3 Year Olds is an initiative that will be available for eligible children with the greatest need, with access being guided by a set of criteria to include children who are three years old by 1 January in any year from 2020 (i.e. the year before Kindergarten).
